Mandarin Immersion Program
The vision for the Mandarin Dual Language Two-Way Immersion Language Immersion Program at Braddock Drive Elementary is to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment while receiving a balanced yet rigorous academic instruction in both English and Mandarin. We help students develop to their fullest potential in education and life, preparing them for the challenges of a diverse and competitive world.
Our program is a 50/50 model; instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Mandarin, with both classes of students (consisting of 24 students per class) sharing a Mandarin-speaking teacher and an English-speaking teacher. With full-time aides in both classes, teacher-student ratio is 12:1. Students spend half the day in Mandarin and half in English.
This is a child-centered program that focuses on differentiated instruction. For English language arts, we use Readers and Writers Workshop within a balanced literacy framework. For Math, we use Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Teachers and administrators are open-minded and constantly seek best practices on all topics. Parents actively support school staff by raising funds, volunteering classroom hours, and running additional programs.
Enrichment classes augment daily curriculum with opportunities in sports, art, music, technology and computer programming, chess, and many other activities. Before and after school childcare is available from 6:36 a.m. until 6 p.m.
School tours are available throughout the year. Please reserve your spot on a tour here.
